AWS launches new accelerator for early stage startups
Ml.Inf2 instances are powered by the AWS Inferentia2 accelerator, a purpose built accelerator for inference. It delivers three times higher compute performance, up to four times higher throughput, and up to 10 times lower latency compared to first-generation AWS Inferentia. The largest instance size, Inf2.48xlarge, features 12 AWS Inferentia2 accelerators with 384 GB of accelerator memory in a single instance for a combined compute power of 2.3 petaflops for BF16/FP16. It enables you to deploy up to a 175-billion-parameter model in a single instance. Inf2 is the only inference-optimized instance to offer this interconnect, a feature that is only available in more expensive training instances.
When the tracing is complete, the model is partitioned across the NeuronCores based on the tensor parallel degree. Applications open in November 2021 for all startups from across the European Union, United Kingdom and Israel, seeking to build and scale their product on AWS. The first cohort of 25 startups will start in early 2022, with the program expanding to more countries across EMEA in the coming months. After the programme, 15 selected finalists will have the opportunity to join AWS, NVIDIA, and potential investors and customers in-person at a Demo Day event hosted in the US. “Over the coming weeks, we will complete a winding down of the business, including discontinuing our listings as a marketplace seller and closing our website,” Andy Chart, head of vendor management, was quoted as saying.

Still, the long game was always to weave mobile into Rakuten group’s extensive ecosystem that cross-fertilises services, from TV to insurance and other financial services, esports and holiday rental properties. Being a customer of one service triggers discounts and deals for others, with the aim of getting customers to take more services and stay within the ecosystem, thereby encouraging customers to spend more and remain loyal. Atrinet has released the NetACE TONAS line of cloud-native, modular, low-code OSS products.
Nokia is adding AI-derived insights to its Fixed Network Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). AVA Fixed Network Insights will be launched later in the year and is designed to help operators to improve customer service while reduce operating genrative ai costs. Although about 350 Nokia employees will transfer to Red Hat, Nokia’s Fran Heeran said his company will continue to support its core network applications on other infrastructure platforms if that’s what customers want.

However, their increasing complexity also comes with high costs for inference and a growing need for powerful compute resources. The high cost of inference for generative AI models can be a barrier to entry for businesses and researchers with limited resources, necessitating the need for more efficient and cost-effective solutions. Furthermore, the majority of generative AI use cases involve human interaction or real-world scenarios, necessitating hardware that can deliver low-latency performance. AWS has been innovating with purpose-built chips to address the growing need for powerful, efficient, and cost-effective compute hardware. In detail, the accelerator is open to start-ups from all over the world who want to do business with defence and national security organisations across Europe. Around 15 start-ups will be selected after demonstrating the existence of customers and revenues and the ability to use AWS cloud services to solve the challenges of defence and national security missions.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT (short for Generative Pre-trained Transformer) automation tool has taken the world by storm since its launch in November. Microsoft has invested an undisclosed sum in the firm which is widely rumoured to be $10 billion. The AI-powered chatbot is able to hold human-like conversations with actual humans about, it seems, almost anything.
Cisco is to acquire network performance monitoring specialist Accedian, which has 75 of the globe’s top 100 telcos as customers. The value of the deal has not been disclosed but Cisco said it expects the deal to complete during the first quarter of its 2024 financial year. This digital energy transition campaign week will focus on the digital transformation of the energy sector, its ability to deliver higher impact through tech and the capability of our industry to deliver a just transition. “Media agencies and the cloud go hand in hand, as we have to be dynamic and deal with a multitude of clients worldwide,” says Buchanan. Ingesting data across many markets brings its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to where we store data and how we navigate region-specific data regulations. Working in the cloud gives us the flexibility we need to spin up data centres based on individual clients requirements.
The ChatGPT plugin will allow users to ask questions about groceries, receive personalised recommendations, and easily build their customised shopping basket on the go. It will use the chatbot to power a new search engine designed to respond to users’ food-related questions, such as asking for recipe ideas and ingredients, or healthy meal options.Right product. From the many Chief Technology Officers I have worked with since starting in retail some moons ago, the words “personalisation at scale” have always struck me as the holy grail. Being able to provide truly personalised products, offers and recommendations to customers based on their purchase history, their browsing behaviour and their evolving preferences is surely a recipe for success.
